What is the Solo Cup?
The Solo Cup is a "FedEx" style season long golf tournament. With the inaugural season in 2021, a lot was learned on what not to do as much as what to do. Here is basically what it is (you can find the exact rules in the download section).
Starting in mid-April, you will set up your own 9 or 18 hole matches at anytime, any course, and any format (stroke or match play). You will however, only be allowed to play each competitor up to 3 times over the season thus playing against people you might not normally play against. You can also play multiple people at the same time so that it is possible that a foresome could have four different matches going on simultaneously (its easier than it sounds). Points will be awarded for wins, loses, and ties for each match.
During the course of the season, we also have three "Majors". These majors will be held at different courses for one month each (i.e. Legacy in May, Valley of the Eagles in June, and Grayhawk in July). Your best NET 18 hole score for that course during that month will be how you finish in the major (you can play and improve your score as often as you like). You can also play matches during these rounds as well.
Additionally, we will be having a skins games at both Grayhawk and Valley of the Eagles where you can post majors scores, have matches among fellow competitors, as well as earn some cold hard cash!
All of this will culminate in a season ending playoff with the top twelve points earners getting a spot to compete for the grand prize and the title of Solo Cup Champion. Our first season in 2021 was a tremendous success and are looking to expand the field from 12 to as many as 30!
Changes for 2022
- Here are some of the changes for the 2022 season. These will become finalized prior to the start of the season.
- In addition to this website, there will also be a mobile app for ease of entering scores (see below).
- Season starts Wednesday, April 13th and all matches and playoffs will be finished prior to Labor Day Weekend.
- Roster will expand from 12 to 30+ participants
- Majors will be modified to being a month long at the course designated during that month. Will pay 3-4 places with 1st place winning back cold hard cash! Additionally, only 1,000pts will be awarded for each major.
- Points for matches will be changed. For a nine hole match this year it will be Win (500pts), Tie (200pts), Loss (100pts).
- For an 18-hole match, points will be Win (750pts), Tie (300), and a Loss (200).
- For playoffs, handicap strokes will be added instead of holes won.
- You cannot reject a match in person-must accept if challenged
- Playoff will remain top 12 with top 4 getting a first-round bye.
- All matches will be played off of zero. If your nine hole handicap is 5 and your opponent is a 6. Both players will get strokes all those holes so extra stroke comes into play on the 6th handicapped hole (not the #1).
- No divisions this year.
- Number of matches between players will be two until August 1st when you can play someone again for a third and final time.
- Can only play one match per day against the same opponent (i.e. can't play front nine for a match and then the back nine for a separate match). Would have to agree to play an 18 hole match prior to start of play.
- All players MUST have a GHIN to participate-NO EXCEPTIONS!

MAJORS format
2022 Majors Format
Unlike last year where you had to be at a specific course on a specific day to participate in the two "Majors", they will now be a month long held at different courses that you can play anytime. During each month, you can post your best NET round on that course which will be used for the payout of points and cash.
- During each month, there will be a specific course for you to play. You will submit your NET round which will be entered into the system. If you play the course again and don't do as well, nothing to do. If you beat your previous score, you will enter it into the system.
- The app will rank everyone's NET score. After that month is completed, it will be locked, and no more entries will be allowed. Because we are playing off of net, it is imperative that you enter your score on the day you play.
- Play anytime but you must always play with another Solo Cup member in order to enter your score.
- Only 18 holes rounds will count, and they must be played at the same time (can't play front 9 on Monday and back 9 on Tuesday).
- We have significantly reduced the amount of points awarded for the majors and instead will be paying out cash. First place in each major will get their entry fee back.
- We are still looking at points but thinking that the winner will win a maximum of 1000 pts unlike last year where they won 1950pts.
- During these rounds, you will also be able to play individual matches
- Must finish all holes and per GHIN, take a net double bogey max.
Once the web app is completed, it will be clear as what to do. This could actually be more fun than the matches themselves.

Playoffs...Did you say Playoffs?
Instead of using both handicap strokes AND hole advantage, we are working on a system to increase the amount of handicap strokes the higher seed. For example #1 seed gets 4 strokes added to their handicap, #2 get 3.5, etc. Still a work in progress but you can figure that whatever works best for the Rules Committee is what will be implemented.
